Examiner Top 10 TV Performances

The Hunstville Examiner has produced a Top 10 TV Performances Of The Year List on their news website, in which two True Blood alumni feature.

In at number 9 is Denis O'Hare, for his performance as the King of Mississippi:

Denis O'HareDenis O'Hare of "True Blood"-  As the main antagonist and gay witty vampire villian, he impressed us all with with his evil antics and anti-human speeches. A truly disturbing character if looked at for who he really is. Beyond the witty one-liners and the Victorian Mississippii mansion, he is a vampire anarchist bent on ruling with an unquenchable bloodthirst to destroy all non-humans. Mr. O'Hare gave us all some awesome scenes inticing us with his Southern charisma.

Beating Denis (and the King) at number 7, however is Mariana, for her portayal of Lorena.

Mariana as LorenaMariana Klaveno of "True Blood"- Though most found her character annoying or a character every Truebie loved to hate, one must admit, Ms. Klaveno rocked the performance. She was just a waitress at some random diner, and now she is recongnized as the vicious and awesomely insane Lorena. As Bill's maker and the ex-girlfriend from hell, she was the bane of Sookie's exsistance. Her character caused more problems than needed, but seeing the skills of Mariana Klaveno made it all worth it. From her classy 1950's style and her equally insane yet darkly humorous one-liners, she was quite a vampire lady. And she will be missed, since her bloody, bloody death in episode seven of season three. Maybe we will see her back in the series through some of the trademark "True Blood" flashbacks.

Was Lorena Franklin's Soul Mate?

EOnline spoke to Mariana Klaveno about her character and Lorena’s similarities with Franklin Mott, in the article below:

“We talked about how our crazy characters could be soul mates actually,” laughed Mariana when we chatted with her recently:

Lorena Krasiki“They just missed the boat and should have been together. James Frain was so hilarious, wasn’t he? I kind of thought that we were two peas in a pod, our characters.”

Even though Lorena is dead and gone (thanks Sookie Stackhouse) Mariana played coy when we asked if there was a way she could be brought back.

“You know, who knows. They keep things pretty tight lipped over there. There can always be a flashback or two here and there. I love the people who want to see more of Lorena. I loved playing her I would go back in a second.

“The rules kind of get thrown out the door with that show,” added Mariana as she danced around a definitive yes or no. “We do love doing flashbacks, so…I don’t have any information, but it may not be the last time you see Lorena.”

The babe was part of one of the most shocking scenes of the season (remember, the whole twist your head all the way around your neck while having angry vamp sex with Stephen Moyer scene). So the babe is clearly game for whatever!

“It’s kind of hard to wrap my head around—pardon the pun, I really didn’t mean to do that!—you’re always a little shocked when you read those scripts and think ‘Oh my god, what are my parents going to think?’ But at the end of the day I’d rather be in the water cooler scene than not.”

And for the record her fam was OK with it.

“You know, they were actually really good sports. I built it up as this horrific thing and then I got to see it with them—which was awkward—and they looked at me and shrugged their shoulders and said ‘That was it?’ And I though ‘Whew!‘”

Lorena

Mariana plays the vampire Lorena in True Blood, a character that was introduced in Season 1 Episode 5 [Sparks Fly Out], which aired on The HBO Channel in the United States on 5th October 2008.

That episode's storyline was:

LorenaAfter their encounter with the racist policeman, Sookie tells Bill that she won't be seeing him anymore. The next day, Bill keeps his promise to Sookie's grandmother, Adele 'Gran' Stackhouse, to speak at the monthly meeting of the Descendents of the Glorious Dead. Bill becomes very popular when he reminiscences about the Civil War and the Mayor gives him an old photo he found in the archives. Bill also recalls the circumstances of how he became a vampire.

Lorena is the vampire who turned Bill Compton, She is over 230 years old.

Meanwhile, Sam asks Sookie out on a date, but things don't go as he planned for she tells him that she is not ready to commit. A little later, Sookie is shocked by what she finds when she gets home. Elsewhere, Jason gets more vampire blood from Lafayette, and he also takes an interest in Tara after he hears she has a thing for him. But Jason instead sets his sights on a local woman, named Randi Sue, as his latest sexual conquest.

"Vampires are funny and intelligent and passionate” says Mariana Klaveno, and the same can be said about her. After working as a hostess at Morton’s in Burbank for seven years, Mariana got the break of a lifetime when she landed the role of Lorena, the vampire who “made” Bill (Stephen Moyer) on HBO’s mega-hit True Blood, whose third season is just underway. Raised on a farm in a tiny town in Washington State, Mariana drove a Dodge pick-up truck nicknamed “The Silver Bullet” to high school, where she claims to have never had a boyfriend. While those days are in the past, Mariana remains grateful for her current success, and wary of the unpredictable nature of Hollywood.

Lorena Krasiki

Lorena KrasikiLorena is first introduced during flash back sequences to Bill's birth as a vampire in the first season, but is featured more prominently during season two. She gives Bill the "gift" of eternal life over a century before the events of the series when he is returning from service during the American Civil War. After Bill is made a vampire, the two live as lovers for approximately 70 years (Bill indicates to Sookie that he was turned in 1865, and a flashback scene from "Release Me" shows Bill and Lorena breaking up in 1935) before parting ways. Bill's refusal to adopt Lorena's disregard for human life makes their relationship miserable. Lorena is at first incredulous when Bill reveals this to her, but she reluctantly releases her hold on him when he threatens to commit suicide if she will not.

The two characters are reunited through Eric's machinations during season two. While investigating Godric's disappearance in Dallas, Eric sees an opportunity to drive a wedge between Bill and Sookie. He invites Lorena to Dallas, and asks her to detain Bill while Sookie infiltrates the Fellowship of the Sun. Though Lorena initially feigns disinterest, her feelings for Bill become evident while she holds him captive in his hotel room. Despite her being stronger and faster than Bill, he eventually escapes her to be with Sookie. Later, Godric stops her from attacking Sookie and reprimands her for her childish behavior considering her age.

Though Lorena does seem to reside in Bon Temps when she makes Bill, the two take to traveling the world while they are together. Her whereabouts between her breakup with Bill and the events of the series are unknown. After Godric forces her to leave his home, she took up residence in the house of Russell Edgington, the vampire King of Mississippi. Lorena was made by a vampire named István, who would use her to lure in men so he could brutally murder them and defile their bodies. In Season 3, episode 7, she is staked by Sookie with help from Bill.

Lorena is Lonely

Speaking to TV Guide's Catriona Wightman on July 5th 2010, Mariana claims that her character Lorena is just lonely:

Speaking to TV Guide, Klaveno explained that Lorena still longs to be in a relationship with Bill (Stephen Moyer).

She said: "At her core she's lonely and heartbroken because she so strongly loved Bill."

Klaveno also suggested that Lorena will clash with Bill's current partner Sookie, played by Anna Paquin.

"It's fair to say Lorena and Sookie will exchange words," she said. "She'll show a few different sides of herself this season that may surprise people."
